When it comes to walleye fishing in mid to late spring one technique that works well for me, and I'm sure many other anglers, is jigging artificial plastics.
Here's a few of my personal favorite walleye catching weapons.
In early spring on rivers nothing beats the Trigger x Swimming Grub. It comes in a great variety of colors but my favorite is Pumpkin purple chartreuse tail. This soft plastic gives off an awesome vibration with it's short, fat design and is great for fast retrieving to trigger those quick bites from aggressive early season walleye.

The next deadly soft plastic is the Berkley Powerbait T-Tail Minnow. I find the 3.5" size in white to be particularly effective. Teamed up with a 1/4 oz jig head, I like to work this bait fairly slowly, bouncing it off the bottom and pausing it every so often to give those lethargic walleye a chance to bite. The tail on this minnow imitating soft bait gives it some great action.
Next up is the Berkley GULP! 6" Nightcrawler in chartreuse. This bait has excellent swimming action and maneuvers through the water seamlessly. I rig this with a 1/8 oz white jig head and quickly retrieve it with no jigging motion. Just swim it right along the bottom and wait for the strike.

All this jigging was done with the Fenwick Elite-tech walleye jigging rod. The 6'6 medium action is a great versatile jigging rod.
I hope that some of these tips help you catch more spring walleye in your area. Stay tuned for some more fishing tips and great recipes to come!
