Top Five Long Island New York Fishing Spots

The top five fishing areas on Long Island, New York, would have to be Forge Pond, Lake Ronkonkoma, Laurel Lake, Artist Lake, and Spring Lake. In these five bodies of water, you can either catch big bass, big chain pickerel, big walleye, or just have a blast catching a lot of decent-sized fish!

First off, Forge Pond. Forge Pond is an amazing body of water. It's part of the Peconic River system that runs through Long Island, so there is always some sort of constant current somewhere in it. There are pockets and canals that you can fish in and have an amazing time reeling in tons of fish, and seeing the best  freshwater topwater action Long Island has to offer. Big bass and Large pickerel come out of Forge every year!

Lake Ronkonkoma is also a really great fishing spot. You can catch Smallmouth Bass in this lake (a rarity for Long Island) and Walleye. This lake is a  one of the largest and deepest lakes on the Island. We catch big (Long Island) Walleyes out of Lake Ronkonkoma every year. We've caught big bass out of it too! The water in this lake is no where near clean or clear. Fishing the edges will be you best bet for catching bass. You can also catch White Perch here too. They're really fun to catch and where there is one there is bound to be 20 more!

Laurel Lake is an amazing top water frogging lake. I has tons of lily beds that make great cover for bass and pickerel. Its more of an early morning and dusk fishing area, but definitely is in my top 5. It is only accessible by foot and you have to carry your fishing vessel through the woods, but if you know how to fish Laurel, and love just being out on a beautiful lake, then it's worth it.

Artist Lake is more of a crappie lake then anything. It's filled with vegetation all the way to the surface which the crappie love. If you put your lures/baits in the pockets of the weeds and are stealthy getting there, it's almost a guarantee that you reel in a Crappie. Throw jigs and worms for the best luck. Bass also love the worms thrown in and around the vegetation.

Spring Lake is smaller lake compared to these other four. I've kayaked in Spring Lake and caught a lot of bass. This pond is more of a Largemouth Bass and Sunfish lake. Realistic rubber worms work really well along with spinners. We've caught bass up to five pounds in this lake, but it's mostly just a smaller bass sanctuary unless you know how to catch them big.  Take a youngster or a new angler fishing here and they'll get hooked.
