Dream Fly Fishing Vacations
The old saying is everyday of fishing is better than a day at work. Few of us would disagree with it. While that may be so, some days of fly fishing are better than others. Specifically, we are talking about fly fishing spots every angler talks about.
As you well know, there are thousands upon thousands of great spots to hit. Heck, I've fished in Siberia of all places. Caught mostly vodka, but that is another story. Regardless, picking 5 is difficult, so don't send me blazing emails about how wrong I am!
1. The Big Horn River in Montana is one of the most productive spots you'll find. Rainbows in the 15 inch range and an absolute huge population most years. Late July through the first two weeks of August are the best times to go for this great spot.
2. I love Chili and I am not talking the food. Chile has fjords in the south of the country. You hit the coast, get a guide and a zodiac boat and just explore the little rivers. Everything from salmon on can be found. An incredible experience.
3. New Zealand is one of the more beautiful countries in the world and the South Island is known to have some excellent fly fishing. Browns and rainbows are on the menu. It is a very informal place, so ask around or buy a local guide to find the best spots.
4. If you like a fish that not only fights, but will win, the tiger of the river is your fish. The Golden Dorado is found at the mouth of the Parana River and swamp area of Estero Ibera in Argentina. These brawler fish average 15 pounds and fights!
5. The Green River in Utah is a controversial pick. It is an epic river with incredible fishing for trout. So, what could be the downside? The river gets busy with people. If you are looking to avoid the crowd, the Green River may be a bad choice these days.
These may not represent your top 5, but I guarantee a few days at any of these locations will have you reevaluating your top 5 list. Give any of them a try and you will not regret the decision to do so.
