Every angler knows fish like worms, heck let?s get serious a
moment: they LOVE worms!
Which is why if you tie your own flies I have a
pattern that?s guaranteed to produce more and higher quality catches for you. I
have tried this pattern on numerous western coldwater rivers with great
results. So much so that eventually I took to rotating the bottom fly but
always kept one of these on top.
Orange is the color of choice though I have
had some success with other colors like red, brown, or green. I even tied a few
with mint flavored dental floss! Orange was by the far the most productive
though.
Get some medium size (say size 3) kahle hooks, orange fly floss (available at Sportsman"s Warehouse), wire (if you want to weight it) and you?re ready. Here?s
some instructions for one
version.
Or maybe this one.
Fish the worm on top with a trailing stonefly or caddis 8-18?
below. Free drift this setup with a strike indicator on top. You?ll be glad you
did.
