Being a Trout angler in small streams and rivers most of my life and the fact that the Trout hook in such waters were not overly big I never thought much about personal records.
But 2011 changed all that; I got into targeting different types of fish and different methods to hook these fish. Being an ambassador on this W.F.N. fishing site had a lot to do with this, seeing and reading about Bass fishing got me looking for places to fish Bass in my area and I found that we did have Bass here.
At first I hooked into some nice Striped Bass in the mouth of the Durham River. I was using my shimano spinner set up and a Mepps rooster tail spinner. It was a great day with my best about 2-2/12 lbs.
I also hooked my frist Bass with my W.F.N. lure which was awesome.
Than I started to fish Smallmouth Bass in the Middle River Reservoir, boy do those bronze backs put up a fight. I was using Repalas (Perch) mostly by trolling, again averaging 2-21/2 lbs.
I will be fishing these Bass a lot more in the future.
Now 2011 was an awesome year for my Trout fishing as well, I started fly-fishing (I tied flies before) and it was great hooking Trout with your own patterns. Here?s a nice one hooked with my red Ant.
Well fishing the Barney,s River I hooked into my biggest Brown Trout to date, a nice 2 ½ lbs using my shimano rod and reel and one of my own homemade spinners-worm.
Then there is the story of the unexpected Brook Trout that I hooked into between two fallen trees on the Barney, s River. I was using orange spinner and worm for this dandy.
This 3 lb Brooke sure surprised me as you can tell in the video.
I hope 2012 brings us all more personal records to enjoy?FISH-ON!
