So far winter in the southeast has been wet with mild temperatures. The gloomy overcast short days have made the months since summer seem to crawl by. Many anglers turn to football and television as they mark the calendar watching for springs approach. As for myself, I have been busy with the move into our new house, or I would have been doing more fishing. However I did manage to slip away from unpacking and settling in the new house to take my fly rod for a few casts at near by Cumberland Mountain State Park. The beauty of the park alone is reason enough to visit the area, but the rainbow trout that are stocked into Byrd Lake, are what keeps me going back.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency stocked the lake in early December and as I found out yesterday there are several of the rainbows still active in the lake. In this post I will share some photographs and a video I made as I fished the lake and creek that flows from the old stone dam.
