Where do striped bass live?
Striped bass (Morone saxatilis) inhabit the coastal waters of the western Atlantic Ocean from the St. Lawrence River in Canada to the St. Johns River in Florida, including the Gulf of Mexico. They are anadromous fish, meaning that they spend part of their lives in salt water and part in fresh water. Adults typically live in marine environments but migrate into estuaries and rivers to spawn. Juvenile striped bass may remain in freshwater habitats for several years before migrating to the ocean. Striped bass can also be found in some landlocked lakes and reservoirs.
