Why is the bass clef used to tell you what notes are bass?

The bass clef isn't used to dictate what notes are considered "bass notes." Instead, it is a notation system used musical notation to tell the musician what pitch to play or sing for the bass vocal part or left-hand part of the piano or keyboard.
