Striped bass are anadromous fish that spend most of their lives in the ocean but return to freshwater rivers and estuaries to spawn. They are found in the western Atlantic Ocean from the St. Lawrence River in Canada to the St. Johns River in Florida. Striped bass typically live in shallow waters near the shore, but they have been known to dive as deep as 300 feet.
