Popular Trout Lures

An important factor that determines how many trout you catch are your different kinds of trout lures that you are using. Trout are not as easily caught as one might thing and being able to catch them regularly requires some skill and knowledge pertaining to your types of lures you are using and in what conditions.

Spinners

Spinners are great lures to be used for the summer as they very convincingly mimic the natural prey of trout. However, when choosing out your spinner lures be sure that it is not too shiny as this could be a dead giveaway to the trout that it is not real prey. Use these lures in either a river or a lake.

Spoons

Another extremely effective lure when fishing for trout is of the spoon variety. These lures get their name because they resemble a table spoon you might find in your home. These lures are usually rather heavy and typically around an inch in length. Since the spoon part of it wobbles in the water, the trout tend to think it is an injured fish and therefore strike the easy prey. Although these lures are available in longer lengths, what season you are using them in as well as the environment should determine which size you use if you want to go larger.

Rooster Tails

Many anglers would consider the rooster tail lure one of the best when it comes to fishing for trout. These lures look to the fish like legitimate prey because of the tuft of animal hair that is attached to it. When a trout sees this, it immediately assumes it is a minnow and snatches it right up.

Other Lures

Other popular lures for trout are different sizes of spinners as well as weighted minnow plugs. However, if you are always careful to choose the lures that best resemble actual living prey then chances are that you will be successful on your trout fishing trip no matter what time of year it is.

Determining a certain depth as to where to fish for trout isn’t typically a concern as long as you use a heavier lure that is able to easily sink to the bottom. As long as your lure can be passed off as a minnow, night crawler or other recognizable prey, you will be getting bites left and right.

Always be aware of what season and other conditions you are fishing in and choose your lures accordingly.
