The Frog Bite is Near

Every year as we move into the month of August on Guntersville the frog bite moves front and center and people from all over the country come to experience what we take for granite. The explosion of a big largemouth bass blowing through the matted grass is like no other fishing you will ever experience. Nothing compares to this type of fishing, it is just startling and heart pumping and a site to be seen when you realize you have a monster bass hung in matted grass.

When you set the hook, the weight of the fish combined with the grass is just mind boggling! You better have a strong Duckett rod and Lews reel set up with Vicious braided line and have your game face on because you are in for a fight! When you finally get the fish to the boat and this big bucket mouth bass shows its head, your heart fills with excitement and satisfaction that you can抰 experience in any other type of fishing!

This has become such a big part of fishing on Guntersville that Tackle Companies like "Snag Proof Frogs" and "Spro Frogs" all put on tournaments dedicated to frog fishing with their products; where you must use their products during the tournament and all fish must be caught respectively on their products.

The Snag Proof Tournament is August 11, 2012 at Goose pond and the Spro Tournament is August 25, 2012 at Waterfront Tackle. Each has some big money pay backs and prizes for the winners. The frog bite is near, the excitement is in the air and it抯 time to experience what made Guntersville famous.

Remember not all grass areas are created equal, look for the nastiest looking grass you can find; look for your frog to create a trail over the scummy surface and work your frog along points and holes in the grass. The best time of year is near!
