Fishing a Fast Pace
To fish at a fast or slow pace is a question we ask our selves a lot. It will really depend what style you prefer, but there are times that you must do both. To fish slowly is something that I will do once I know I have located a school of or a pattern that requires this slower past. But I prefer the faster pace of fishing.
What I抦 really talking about here is fishing for active fish, fish that have moved into a feeding position. Fish that will be sitting on a small rock bar, along a stump, or into the edge of a grass bed.
The lures that I favor are going to be a spinner bait, rattletrap, buzz bait, and a jig. I can fish all of these baits effectively and quickly.
I will fish all of these baits at a face pace burning the spinner bait past the cover and then killing it (letting it free fall), the rattle trap which is very effective with all styles of fishing is a great bait to burn past cover, especially in weed beds, whenever the bait snags in the grass I will rip it free with a quick rip of the rod tip ripping the bait from the grass and this is when the bass will inhale the lure out of reflex. A buzz bait is a big fish bait and I抣l fish it on twenty pound test line on flats in or around treetops along rip rap, and in grass beds focusing on the points and holes in the grass. And last but not least, a jig, some people don抰 realize just how fast you can fish a jig, I love to flip it in creek and river channels hitting every piece of cover I can find with the trolling motor on high I will look for the thickest part of the cover and make a flip into it, let the jig fall to the bottom shake it real quick and on to the next piece of cover. I will see most of the cover under water and its because of my coasta del mar sunglasses that will put about 75% of my fish in the boat for me. I fish with people all the time who past up cover because they never saw it in the first place. I really recommend a good pair of sunglasses made for fishing.
