Proven And Tested Carp Fishing Bait

You need some good carp fishing bait if you want to land yourself a big one. Most people love the challenge of reeling in a big carp. They’re known as good fighters and make for a really fun time. Since they’re bottom feeders most people won’t eat them. But if you cut the mud-line out, which is an orange streak down both sides of the meat, you can eat them as safely as you can eat catfish.

When it comes to good baits to use to land the big ones, there are three that have produced consistent results all my life. I grew up in a small town, and fishing was part of our lifestyle. It doesn’t take long to figure out the best bait for each kind of fish you go after. There are lots of baits you can use, but when some work better than others, it’s wise to use the better ones.

The first one of these, is commonly known around here as a ‘dough ball’. We make these by submerging a cake of Shredded Wheat cereal in water, and then molding and shaping it in our hands until we have a round or oblong ball. Then we sink the hook into the center until it’s totally covered, and cast it out as far as we can throw it. You may have to water it down a couple of times to get it to the right texture. You want it to hold its shape. If you happen to be chewing tobacco, spit some on your dough ball.

Here’s another carp fishing bait secret. Most all fish bite well on worms. But as any sharp country boy can tell you, not all worms are made equal. From red-worms, stripers, wigglers, and night crawlers, there’s a lot to choose from. But one bait that people may overlook, that really slays the carp, are green-worms. You find these off the banks of the river. If you can find muddy places where the ground is sorta cracked into blocks, it’s a good place to find these worms. They’re a dull shade of green, and the carp totally love them.

Growing up in the small town I’m from, carp fishing was a regular activity. Me and my friends all learned at an early age what a thrill it is to haul in one of these big fighters. They get really big in this area. We normally caught six pounders on up to twenty pounders. But once in a while somebody would land a big thirty pounder, and this was big news. This was the goal we all had set in mind, the thirty pounder.

The last of the three baits is very common, and many use it for bluegill fishing as well. But carp love it. It’s canned sweet corn from the store. They go for it like a hummingbird goes for sugar. You just slide the kernels onto the hook until it’s covered and toss it out into the water. It won’t take long before you get your first bite. They simply love corn.

These are just some carp fishing bait secrets that I wanted to share so you can go out and have some of the fun that I’ve had over the years. It’s just a really exciting way to spend a day and enjoy the sport of fishing, whether by yourself or with friends. We all hear about how nice it is just to be there, mostly from people who didn’t catch anything. Trust me, it’s much better when you haul a few in and get the thrill of landing a big one. Test these three baits out for yourself, and you’ll see what I mean.
