How To Pick A Fishing Rod

I really do love to go fishing. I do not get to go as often as I would like but I go often enough to be a experienced fisherman. It is too bad that we all do not have more time to just go out and fish from the shore or in a boat more often. In life we do have things that we have to do such as work and that comes first before pleasure. I really do love to go fishing. If you are new to fishing and you go into a bait and tackle shop or any store that sells poles, bait and tackle you may be confused as soon as you see the hundreds of rods all over the place. Some stores like BASS PRO offer so much selection is it insane. You may be wondering just how can you pick out a good rod out of all these rods.

I want to offer a few tips on picking out a rod that is right for you.

Set your budget. How much are you willing to spend on a quality fishing pole? Do not be too cheap here as that can backfire. Buying a cheap pole can mean you could lose the fish of a lifetime or have to replace your pole often as the cheap poles are not strong and break easily. When you walk into a store to buy a fishing pole they will have fishing poles in all prices and actions.

You first need to determine just what you are fishing for. What do you want or plan to catch? There are several classes of poles ranging from ultra light duty to heavy action. If you are trout fishing for instance you will most likely want a ultra light action pole. You could also use a light action pole too.

If you are looking to fish for small to medium sized fish you will enjoy a light action pole. These poles are not too long and and are very light. They are easy to hold up for hours because they do not weigh much. I found this out when I recently got one myself and compared to my heavy action pole it is amazing just how light it is. It is perfect if you are aiming to catch small fish. The line ratings on this class is 2-6 pounds and that is really all these poles can handle. I caught a few 3 and 4 pound bass on mine and the little thing struggles.

If you are fishing for bass you will want medium to heavy or just heavy action poles. I have and use both. I got a heavy action pole not too long ago and I like it. The only thing is it does not break down in the middle and so does not work good for transporting it around in a car. It is perfect for bass because it is ridged and strong enough to pull them in. I could easily pull in a 30 pound fish with this action of pole.
