You can see the mist coming off the little inlet off to the left looks amazing this time in the morning. I wonder if I can get my frog over to those lily pads, zing, good shot right where I wanted it, the water is a boil. I give it a split second just to make sure he has it in his mouth I pull up on my rod with a snapping action setting the hook.
The water is still a boil, haven’t seen him yet but it has some weight to it as my rod is being tested to its limits. I get my first glance at this brute, wow nice fish, ok don’t get to excited, giving a good fight, taking line this is a nice fish.
I finally get the monster bass to the dock where I have been casting off of, I shout out to the wife get me the net; hurry up this thing is huge 5-6 pounder for sure. She comes running down to the dock and I can see the excitement in her eyes as she hands me the net, head first he is in the net.
I put the scale to this monster and I tell you no lies, 6.3 pounds largemouth bass, Mary had brought the camera with her and she starts snapping pictures of this lake monster. I give it a little kiss, thank him for the fight, and release him to fight another day.
We stand looking at each other our mouths hangin open in amazement of the size of this fish it was huge. Never have I caught such a big fish or at least a largemouth bass, I now wonder if it is a lake record or something.
I go to the local bait shop and of course, there are a few folks in the shop buying and looking at some tackle. I could not keep my mouth shut for long and I was blabbing to all about my catch of the day.
They all seem to really be interested in what I was saying, not only about the size of this beast but how where and when. They were hangin on my every word, now I know how the T.V. fishin stars must feel at times with everyone wanting more.
I had no more to give, I only had caught the one I was done telling the story and answering the questions asked of me.
I was famous for a moment and people really cared what I was saying, even if it was only for 10 minutes or so. I came out of the bait shop with the biggest smile on my face, biggest bass ever caught by me and so many wanting to hear what I had to say, what a day.
Never asked about the largemouth record, oh well another day perhaps.
