Where To Find The Pike
A pike is a fish that is usually very easy to catch. There are however a few things you need to know. To illustrate these points we will use an example.
If you have ever watched an animal program about wolves and lions, you should have noticed a key difference between these two predators. Even if they have the same object, the reach it in two very different ways.
The wolf is an animal that chases its prey for a long time. It can chase it for days before finally catching up. This strategy is also used by a fish, the salmon. It hunts in much the same manner as the wolf with long chases and few surprises.
Lions have a totally different tactic. It waits for food to come walking by. It can lie in high grass, hiding, for several hours just waiting. When an animal finally comes walking by, the lion rushes out and grabs it before the animal know what is going on. This the same tactic as the pike uses. It lies on the bottom and waits for its prey.
How can this information be used to catch more pike? Actually this can be the most important information we have about the pike. This enables us to fish at the right spots. Find spots that looks like good hiding spots for the pike, and you will probably catch one.
Another thing that we can tell is that we can often find the pike close to the bottom. This is usually where the best hiding spots are, and therefore the pike likes to be there.
Does this tell us anything about what bait to use then? It actually does. We should use something that looks like a fish and can be fished close to the bottom. The first thing you should think of is a sinking wobbler. This bait resembles an injured fish and will be the perfect target for a pike. Another thing you can consider is live bait.
