Creating Your Own Catfish Bait
To find the right fishing bait it takes time and experience for whatever fish you wish to catch. It is hard to decide when you have a gambit of bait to choose from such as, artificial, live, or dead baits. By using a variety of bait you can virtually guarantee greater success when facing your underwater nemesis whether it be a large mouth bass or that elusive catfish.
If your goal is to catch a record breaking carp, you should remember that they prefer a sweeter tasting type of bait. I am referring to homemade baits made from biscuits, pellets, and of course the carps all time favorite - bread. You can add a little extra something to your baits by adding fish oils along with a little gummy candy. If you do that the carp will practically jump in your boat. I am sure that you already knew that carp love bloodworms, shad and shrimp. Trust me when I tell you that you will achieve better results by using my homemade recipe.
If you plan on heading out to the ocean for a challenging day of fishing, you may want to bring along some prawns and shrimp, marine worms, squid and octopus, along with some yellowtail or even mackerel. Using a similar recipe that I shared with you for carp you can use dough balls mixed with fish oils, rotten fish, cheese, or any type of meat - the more it stinks the better it will do.
Sometimes the fish you are seeking, like catfish, are picky and change their feeding preferences daily. You may find something you used today that was successful turns out to be ignored by the cats tomorrow, so you need to prepare an ever changing feast to make sure you keep them satisfied and surprised by what's dangling on your line.
I am going to share with you my catfish bait recipe that your going to love. First you will need to start off with some delicious night crawlers. It does not matter if you buy them or dig them up in your backyard. If you can only get your hands on the small worms you will want to make sure to wrap three or four of them (depending on their size) around your J Hook. The worms make for great catfish bait because they do not easily come off the hook, and catfish love them.
Another great catfish bait trick that I like to use is chicken livers. Catfish will start a feeding frenzy over some the strong delightful odor of chicken livers. Because the chicken livers are so slippery it is recommended that you wear gloves to avoid cutting yourself while baiting the hook.
Dead shad is another excellent catfish bait that you can use if you are in a quick jam. I say this because shad is normally located in the same place where you will find catfish. One rule of thumb that you may want to keep in mind is that the larger the shad, the larger the catfish you will attract.
You can concoct your own catfish dip bait with almost anything as long as you make sure to begin with a core of any kind of smelly cheese since catfish are bottom feeders who are looking for the smelliest tidbit to snap up. With everything you can offer them, you'll soon find them biting at the other end of your line.
