Beginners Guide to Angling
Becoming a good Angler requires skill and patience. Firstly decide whether you want to fish in freshwater or saltwater as the they require different equipment an different techniques. There is a lot more to catching a fish than just dropping a hook in the water, as many a good Angler will tell you. Yes, there can also be a certain amount of luck involved but the art of successful Fishing depends on a certain amount of skill.
Choosing the correct Bait is as important as anything else when it comes to catching fish, different fish have different diets. Make sure that you dress the hook with the bait correctly, if you are using live bait then there is a possibility it will escape the hook. Experiment with different types of bait as some are more effective than others.
If you can travel well on boats then you will find that some sea ports or towns will have organised fishing trips at sea, these normally last all day and the skipper of the boat will take the party to known locations where the chances of successful fishing are increased. These trips are good fun and a good way to meet experienced Anglers.
Sea fishing and fresh water fishing are different and have their own techniques for catching fish; some anglers prefer either one or the other. Sea fishing can involve going on boat trips sometimes in rough sea conditions while river fishing is more relaxed and peaceful, two completely different methods.
Competition fishing at a river location can be good fun, especially if you win. I have drawn a peg next to another competitor that was only 10 yards away from me, he caught one fish in the competition and I caught seventeen in the same amount of time, sounds incredible but true. This clearly proves that there is a certain amount of skill required to catch fish.
