Many of these anglers use homemade baits and actually have been making their own homemade baits since the time when everyone had to before the carp industry really existed at all before freezer baits or shelf life baits or whatever. They know from experience that not only can they hold their own, or top ready made baits on the waters they fish, indeed but consistently defeat ready made baits on their own terms, because they have that vital understanding of carp, internally, externally, and have a passionate interest in creating new experiences for carp and in doing so by pass so many reasons carp are suspicious of ready made baits.

Most of these hidden anglers are secretive about what they do, not for selfish reasons, but because what they have learnt has come at a price most anglers are not willing to pay, as in thousands of hours fishing, endless researching and study, endless bait testing over the years on countless waters in every swim type and seasonal variation possible.

Some guys like this are still using old faithful paradigms of baits which really are the same recipes and ingredients as used maybe 30 years ago and I can tell you this, that although such homemade baits catch fish, things can be far improved, not just in terms of ingredients used, and combinations and levels used, but also in actually avoiding all those common substances ready made bait makers have used for years and creating totally new fresh paradigms of baits!

Certainly many formats of unusual homemade baits cannot be sold as commercial baits simply because they are so active, and require special preparation and storage even while fishing, to maximise their potency, but believe me this is well worth it to catch more fish than those around you using ready made baits!
