Fins Spectra Superliner PRT Braid

There are many outstanding braid lines available, some of which are excellent. I have tried many brands in the 10 to 20 lb line classes and am happy to say that to date I have yet to find one that did not perform the task of landing a hooked fish. Amongst the most outstanding are the Fins PRT Spectra Superline braids, which I have used since their introduction with outstanding results for both fresh and saltwater fishing.

Fins lines are noted for the fact they are finer compared to other braids on the market. Being thinner is an asset because it allows more line to be spooled on a reel, which is very convenient when fishing with small reels that have tiny spools. It also gives it less drag when wet and sheds water much faster. This is very noticeable when casting and during trolling as lures hooked onto Fins lines troll noticeably deeper than thicker braids.

Spectra Superline is a new generation line with polymer reinforced technology that truly increases the strength and high performance of spectra fibers when breaking strength is compared to the diameter of lines. The Fins lines allow anglers to use a wider range of knots than previously possible with braids because it allows fusion without heat.

Afraid of Braid: many anglers continue to use monofilament lines because sales people advise them that they need to know and use special knots for braid line. While this may be the case, newcomers should not be turned away from braid because of the complex knots they supposedly require. All fishing lines lose significant tensile strength at the knot. The Fins lines avoid much of this because the polymer reinforcing infuses with the line's fibres in a resin-mix that gives excellent body strength. The greater the compression of line to line, the better the knot strength, and this is the reason that many varieties of knots can be used with polymer braids.

Another trick with braid knots – one that I shamelessly admit I have been using for many years – is to dab the knot with a light coating of super glue. Some anglers, mostly guides, have told me that this is cheating and that the knot will break anyway. It has never broken or slipped when treated with super glue, something I have proven many times when  I have hooked up to big fish including sharks. The knots held, the held, and the result was that the sharks were brought back bear the boat after their long run and cut free without any significant loss of line. I suggest that you use the knots you know best for braid and dab them with super glue. A small tube lasts for ages and discount warehouses sell packs of six tubes for two bucks –cheap insurance.

Fins Advantage:

Some braids brittle with age, which will affect their casting ability. Because Fins line is cured without heat, it escapes from the brittle problem that plagues some braids.

The Fins treatment helps in redcuing the hardness and brittleness associated with long storage on reel spools and ensure that the casting characteristics are preserved with a noticeable decrease of air knots and rod tip wrapping.

The lack of heating treatment in the construction stages means that Fines lines remain supple and are memory free after ling storage, assets much values for sensitivity during casting and trolling.

Abrasion and fishing lines go hand in hand and many a times I have cursed a hidden oyster covered snag, rock, or reef that was responsible for line breakage during a fish's fight for freedom. The fact is that no line fo small breaking strain will hold up to harsh direct contact with sharp objects. However, many lines break when that contact even harmless appearing snags or smooth rocks, for no reason but the fact that they are taut. In my experience, I feel that braid lines, particularly Fins PRT lines, have much greater tolerance to accidental contact with underwater objects than monofilament lines.

Once again, this is probably due to the interaction between polymer infusion of the braid and the resin-rich matrix during construction.

Another benefit with Fins braid is that it will outlast monofilament line by up to five times and is 100% UV stable. It is not affected by sunscreens or insect repellents, thus its title of superline is well deserved.
