Equipment

The reel that you choose will be mostly a matter of personal preference. Some will tell you that you need an enclosed reel, but if you prefer a regular spinning reel, that will work too. For striped bass fishing, it's recommended that you use at least 300 yards of 15 to 20 pound test line. The type of line you use will depend on the terrain in the area you will be fishing. Monofilament should work for most applications, but braided lines can be used for areas of heavy cover.

Before you begin, chumming the water will help to bring the bigger fish in close. In this type of area, clams and mullet are good choices for bait. When casting, try to get your bait beyond the third or fourth wave.
