Basic Fishing Equipment

2016/7/18 10:29:47

Fishing is one of those hobbies that are a great way to relax and enjoy a little downtime on your own. You can also make it a time to spend quality time with your children and friends. When you are just starting to fish there is no need to get a huge tackle box with all kinds of fancy bait.

For a beginner who is not sure how they will like fishing there is some basic fishing equipment that can help you to start without burning a hole in your wallet. You can buy this equipment at a fishing equipment online store or you could head to your nearest bait and tackle shop for the essentials.

The Right Rod

Before you get carried away with all the interesting bait and tackle you will need to get a rod and reel. This is probably the most important piece of fishing equipment you will buy. When you are just starting out you really don’t need anything too elaborate.

Lighter rods are probably the best for the beginner fisherman. A lighter rod is probably the best type of rod for a child as well. This will make handling the rod easier and you can easily feel when you have hooked a fish.

Fishing Line

The right filament or fishing line is the next piece of fishing equipment that you will need. There are different type of fishing line, with varying degrees of strength and size. You want something that will be able to hold a fish but at the same time you want it to be invisible to the fish.

Fishing line is measured in pound test numbers. The higher the number the stronger the line, but the line will also become more visible the higher the number. The type of rod and fish you will be fishing for will determine the type of fishing line you will need.

Hooks

Choosing the right type of hook can be a tricky part of shopping for fishing equipment. This will depend entirely on the type of fish you hope to catch. If the hook is too small you risk having the fish swallowing the hook and getting away. A hook that is too big will be ignored by fish.

A good rule of thumb is to choose bigger hooks for big fish. You might want to choose a variety of hook sizes when you look for fishing equipment. This will help you decide what works and what doesn’t.
