Fishing is a great hobby but at some point you do need to start learning what you can and cant use and where you can and cant do things when it comes to fishing. Of course you might be out fishing in the deep blue oceans or you might be trying to catch brookies in a stream 5 feet wide and 8 inches deep. The biggest thing is having patience and doing what ever is legal to have fun and catch fish.
The first thing you will need no matter where you decide to fish is a license. This is one thing you arent going to get away with no matter where you go. A license is the law and it is something you need to deal with.
The next thing that is very important is making sure you are using all the right equipment to make sure your fishing trip is one you will always remember. Lots of issues come into play when we are talking about fishing line. Poor quality line ends up in a lot of lost time dealing with tangles and dealing with lost fish.
When it comes to fishing there are roughly 4 different kinds of fish line available to you. We have fluorocarbon, fused, braided and monofilament.
Out of all the lines it seems that the most popular for a long time has been the monofilament. Monofilament has been around for a very long time and for the most part has stood the test of time. Another nice thing about monofilament is it works well for many different types of fishing. The biggest problem is the line tends to have a memory which really can be a nightmare when the line starts to keep certain shapes that tend to lead to knots and tangles. The memory gets worse the longer you do not fish. If you dont fish often you will want to use a line without a memory or even change it each time you go out fishing.
When we are looking for the strongest line then out of all 4 we have to go with braided line. When it comes to braided line for fishing it doesnt stretch and because of the way it is braided it is easy to spot on the water because it floats nicely. The bad part is the line is so strong that it actually has abrasive tendencies. This means it cuts hands and wears out rods and reels. The key to using braided line is using the right gear to go along with it.
The next thing we have is whats called fused line. In fact fused lines have a lot of similarities to braided line. The biggest difference is that instead of being woven the line is actually glued together. The big things you will notice with fused lines is that they dont cut very easily. Thats good news for keeping fish on but sucks when it comes to changing hooks. The other negative is the line has a tendancy to slide around on the reel which can make things a bit tough to deal with when it comes to catching a fish.
The last line is the flurocarbon. It has quickly taken the top spot when it comes to fishing. People love it because not only is it very strong but the best thing is fish can not see the line when it is in the water.
All you need to do is take your time to do your homework and know what is going to work best for you in your different fishing adventures.
