If you've ever been on a fishing expedition, you'll agree with me that it is usually fun filled and that there are lots of stories to tell. Catfishing has something bigger and better when it comes to stories.
From the battles with the fishes, to tournaments and laurels to sizes of fishes to experiences with their various species.
A visit to catfishing websites and blogs will expose you to lots and lots of exciting stories about these wonderful creatures and the ordeals the fishermen went through in their efforts to catch them. They are really exciting stories.
I read a blog of one Steve, and he was recounting his experience in Stewart Lake in Scioto Trails state forest. They went to that place to catch 15 red ear sunfish for some flathead adventure. Being happy that the d=red ears weren't biting that day they went straight ahead to gather all the bait they needed for the fishing. As they got to the flathead spot of their choice for the evening, they got a hint of a storm in the distance and heard a thunder rambling some distance away.
With their four rods baited up with some read ear, they cast the hook into the creek, anticipating their first catch for the night. They did not wait for so long: suddenly there was a drag and his friend's rod was heavy and they started to pull and drag. The guy picked up his rod and opened the bail on its reel. He realized he had a good catch, a good fish that weighed 22 lbs.
Steve got a hit on one of his rods just 22 minutes later. He had set the hook on what turned out to be the biggest flat head he had ever caught. As usual, the fish put up a very good fight, but no one with such prize would want to lose it. Steve fought with the heavy duty tackle he was having. The fish weighed 40-lbs!
That was a good day for both of them, as they ended up catching 4 more big fishes that weight between 15 and 25 lbs. what stopped them that night wads that their baits got exhausted. Steve believes that they would have caught more fishes that day of they had more bait.
Someone else told a story of how at Hoover Reservoir, Something kept hitting his boat on one night. He felt the side of his boat slammed on one side like a small sledge hammer smacking on the side of the boat. Thinking it was bass pinning minnows, he shad to the hull. A look corrected him.
The fish was not a bass at all but a Catfish on the water fighting as usual. This one kept coming even when I shone a flashlight at it. He just kept coming and did not even bulge when he shone a torch at it. It kept hitting the boat and cutting the waves in a shark-like manner, and splashing water onto the back of his boat.
He hits the boat and goes back to the water shower only to reappear with another hit. It was now time he baited the fish. The fish took it and pulled him in on the hook set. Then he soaked him and the whole boat. Did some stuff that got him bruised on his arms on the rail and got his heart racing. Thisthing only tipped the scale at 10 pounds but man what force and power that close to the fish. He took advantage of the still waters and maneuvered his boat to stir in a way that gives him some advantage, and before he knew it the catfish, huge as it was, was captured by the young man.
