The sunfish family of fishes is pretty well known especially in Florida and the outskirts. This is mainly due to the presence of Crappie fish. Despite having such an odd name the fish of that genre is quite famous in Florida and people from Florida and the neighboring states flock in here to try their luck in catching some of these.
The name of the fish although Crappie has got different names associated with it and it all boils down to the geographic location where the fish is found. Some of the other names by which this fish is known as are speckled perch, paper mouth and bridge perch.
The fish is commonly found in the Lake Talquin. And it must be noted that the record number of fish of this genre especially the black Crappie was found in large numbers from this lake. One main advantage of the fish being found in such large numbers in here is because the climate of the region is ideal for the growth of these. This is the main reason for people flocking in here on every fishing season.
The author would suggest trying their luck in the small lakes and tributaries which can be found in Florida for their crappie fishing. Mainly two different categories of these crappie fish can be found in this region. And fishes of both categories can be found in these waters although fishes of both categories do not mingle with each other.
So in one lake you will be successful in finding only one form of crappie fish and in order to fish on the other variety you need to search the other lakes. Do not get discouraged because these fish are in plenty in this region as stated earlier. Now the readers may be curious about the different varieties of the crappie fishes. They are broadly classified into two; the black and the white crappie fishes.
In the northern regions only the black variety can be found and in the southern regions the white variety can be found extensively. Beside the color of the fish there are marked differences in the body structure and shape of these fish. There are eight dorsal spines for the black crappie fish while the white crappie fish as six dorsal spines. The sides of the black crappie are spotted.
But in the white crappie fish the sides are lined or bands can be found. The black crappie can be found in the deeper waters while the white variety can be found in the more quite waters in the southern parts as mentioned earlier. The growth of both the fish is more or less uniform in nature. Some marine biologists have noted that the average growth is precisely three and a half pounds.
