The two fish can be easily distinguished with the help of their color but also with the help of marked and visible striations found in their respective bodies. But depending upon the nature of the season the food habits of the crappie fish also keep on changing and it is better to study the diet of the crappie fish and position yourself in the lake on finding the food which the crappie is interested.
The diet of the crappie fish include frogs, tadpoles and various forms of worms and they are even known to go after plain fishing hooks thinking that some form of live bait can be found in those baits.
