Adventures Of Lake Fork Fishing

The Lake Fork holds the top rank among the various lakes of Texas. Fishing is the primary business on the lake with millions of visitors coming here annually. Lake Fork fishing provides ample opportunities to catch big fishes.

This lake covers an area of 27,690 acres with a pool surface elevation of 123 meters, and it is positioned in Wood and Rains County. This is a place in Northeast Texas between the towns of Emory, Alba, Quitman and Yantis. The main natural sources of water inflow to the lake are Little Caney, Big Caney and Lake Fork Creek This lake was opened officially in the year 1980.

The largemouth bass are a species of sunfish family, and 35 of the top 50 types of these fish are found in this lake. In fact, it is these fish that make Lake Fork fishing attractive for those who come here. These bass fish are called by different names like black bass, bigmouth, wide mouth bass, Florida largemouth, Florida bass, bucket mouth, Oswego bass, green trout, line sides, green bass, southern largemouth etc.

The other kind of fishes found in the lake are Catfish, Black and White Crappie, Sunfish and Bluegill, and the principal source of food for the big fishes in the lake are Shad, Minnows, and Crawfish.

One can visit this lake in any season for fishing. However, if you want to catch a fish that weighs at least 13 pounds then the period between February to April is the right time to visit this area. This does not, however, mean that in the other months you will not get any game!

A license is issued for Lake Fork fishing and there is a limit on the number of fishes a person can catch. There is a ban on catching fish that measure 16 to 24 inches. And, if one catches a fish of this size then they have to return them back to the lake, as per the rules to preserve the fish life in the lake.
