Find Out All You Need To Know About Fishing Tackle

2016/7/16 16:32:58

A bad day of fishing may be better than a good day at work, but a good day of fishing can be better yet. How to make a great day greater still? Learn all about fishing tackle, and catch more fish!

When looking into fishing supplies one may easily become overwhelmed at the abundance of available things to use. It seems that something new and improved comes along on a regular, and reliable, basis. But this overabundance can be daunting to sift through. However, fishing can still come down to three things: a pole, a reel, and string.

Line seems to be the simplest of these useful items, but on closer inspection perhaps it is not. There are filaments, mono filaments, colors to consider, tensile strength, compositions, leaders, strands, wires, thickness, buoyancy and the list goes on and on. Thankfully, most packaging comes with explanations, so read before you buy.

Rods, too, can be carefully matched to circumstances. Some tuna sticks look like stubby clubs more suitable for hitting fish than catching them. Some fly rods are willowy and wispy looking, but possessed of great strength. Again, this is a matter of the tool fitting the work to be performed. Equipment has been designed for every eventuality, so know what you need before you go find it.

From hand cranked baits to spinning lures to solid and staid tuna sticks, reels can be fit to any fishing occasion. Advanced technologies have put new reels in a class by themselves, and an amazing amount of time and stress saving options are available. This bit of gear may be the most important, as this is where the real work gets done. Know what you need, know what you can spend, and do your homework for the best equipment.

Live bait can get complicated. Everything from worms dug up in the backyard to the smaller fish just caught, can and has been used for catching fish. Here tradition tends to take over. Excluding the so called yuck factor, if you were raised fishing with crawdads, you will probably return to them again and again. A good way to see what live baits are working best is to examine the stomach contents of landed fish. Nature always knows best.

Fake bait, or lures, can offer some very exciting takes on catching fish. Many lures are far more colorful and lively than the fish they are intended to catch. Every conceivable color of the rainbow is offered in plastics, and lures are designed to do almost anything except cast themselves in to the water. Fish seem to love the novelty of these shiny baubles, and some actually seem to prefer them to natural fare. You can never go wrong in trying something new, and lures provide the novelties.

Since this is all about fishing tackle items such as nets and traps are not discussed. But when considering tackle, remember that variety is the spice of a fishy life. What is working today may not be working tomorrow, and sometimes fish appetites can change from moment to moment. So do not be afraid to try the latest gadgets as well as the time tested standbys. Both the good old fashioned cane pole and worm and the technologically advanced tuna rig have their rightful place. The fish will always be biting somewhere, so try them all!
