Gold Coast Fishing Charters: A Guide To Help You Choose

2016/7/16 16:30:57

Okay so you have decided to go and expereince first hand, a Gold Coast fishing charter. Congratulations! However you are faced with many operators to choose from. How do you decide which is the best one for you?

Firstly what is common between all Gold Coast fishing charters? They all operate seven days a week and provide the option of half day and full day charters. All the fishing gear and bait is provided along with a meal, snacks and beverages.

What then are the differences between Gold Coast fishing charters? The differences are mainly three fold: the boat travelled on, the kind of fishing carried out and where you go.

Regarding Gold Coast fishing charter boats there is a wide range of options. You can go with a mono (single) hulled boat which tend to be larger and slower boats made of fibre glass. Catarmarans that are dual (double) hulled and the usually smaller tinnies (aluminimum boats).

Let me give you a guide now as to how you go about choosing a Gold Coast fishing charter operator. If you place comfort as a very high priority, then choose one of the larger mono hulled boats. If you just want to get out and back asap and want to maximise fishing time, go with a catarmaran or aluminimum boat provided you dont mind being thrown about a bit depending on the sea conditions.

The next point of difference between Gold Coast fishing charters lies in the type of fishing you can expect. The most common type of fishing is reef fishing which allows for everyone on the boat to be actively fishing. The other is trolling which is passive for most of the people on board but opens the opportunity wider for larger game fish to be caught.

Location of fishing grounds is the third and final difference between Gold Coast fishing charter operators. Some boat operators will tell you that they can get you out to the fishing grounds really quickly. However they may not tell you that the fishing grounds are not far away and are more heavily fished.

If the size and number of fish caught is really important, you are better off requesting to be taken to the more distant reefs even though it reduces the actual time spent fishing.

Finally you are advised to go with boat captains that have more expereince and knowledge and who can provide more options.
