Fly rods are specially designed equipments used for fly fishing purpose. There are different types of fly rods available. It is necessary to pick the right equipment accordingly. It will be a waste of money if purchased a small 4" stream rod for fishing in big lakes and river. How to capture the big fishing giants lurking in those big water bodies? A strong and big fly rod is required for the purpose. Around 7"-10" rods are ideal for fishing in big water bodies. Shopping for the right fly fishing equipment may not be as easy as it seems to be. Length, flexibility, and strength are the attributes of a rod that needs to be checked properly before finalizing the deal.
At first, it should be checked whether the fly fishing lines can be casted properly or not. Casting the line requires the right amount of strength and spring in order to make it act similarly that of catapult. Casting should be accurate and gentle. Next, rod should be able to retrieve the line in a proper manner. It requires strong sensitivity to feel the line during recovery stage as well while a fish grabs the fly. Also, the fly rod should be able to fight the fish. As the fish jump or try to run, the rod should cushion the leader & soak up the necessary shocks. Lastly, the rod should be easily transportable. This means it can be detached into parts when not in use.
To get all these features in a fly rod is practically impossible these days. Rods with amazing casting ability will definitely be stiffer and less forgiving while fighting fish. These rods require heavier leaders that can be easy to detect by fish. Rods with lesser flexibility can be used for slower casting session. However, these rods are higher on accuracy and can easily capture the small fishes. But, they are unable to handle big fishes.
