Things That Can Help You Pass the Time While Waiting for a Bite

There are many things that make fishing such a great pastime - from the addictive nature of slowly improving to the chance to spend some time in the great outdoors getting to see some great scenery and just relaxing.
However for me one of the best things about fishing will always be that it gives you the opportunity to spend some time on your own. This is the perfect excuse to get away from it all and to not be bothered by anyone while you get some alone time/catch up with a hobby. This is a great excuse then to do what you want to do for a bit and to get away from all those responsibilities that come with every day life. But the question is, what will you do with all that extra time? Here are some things you can do while you wait for a bite...
Read
Just catching up on your reading is a great way to spend this time. Of course you can delve into a good book here if you have one that you're currently reading, but just as worthwhile is reading the paper or just flicking through a magazine. I know that I for one have a pile about a foot high of magazines I've yet to get round to reading.
Paint
As you'll be spending time just relaxing in a scenic location, why not capture that moment by painting what you see or doing a sketch? If you're not a great artist then don't worry - this is the perfect way to improve by sketching each time you come down to fish.
Photography
If you really don't think art is ever going to be your thing, then why not try taking photos instead? It's a lot more complicated than just pointing and clicking but still it's something that anyone can have a go at and create some great looking images.
Write
If you have a laptop or typewriter then why not start writing that novel you've been meaning to get round to? Or even that fishing blog??
Catching Up With Correspondence
Most people have about ten people they owe a phone call and they feel guilty about not having spoken to. If that's you, then you should take this great opportunity to chat to some friends or family while you enjoy the fresh air. Just make sure that you're on hands-free so that you can act fast once you do get a tug on the line...
Meditate
This isn't for everyone, but actually some meditation can be highly useful as a way for you to learn a bit more about yourself, to give your heart a break from all the stress and to improve your concentration. Don't knock it until you've tried it...
Eat
Okay so this isn't going to take you all day, but you should at least take a nice meal with you so that you can have a picnic at some point while you fish. Of course this is also a nice opportunity to have a can of beer as long as you're allowed to in your area.
