North American Fish - Trout and Bass
Fishing is a sport that has been around for many generations. It started as a means of survival. It has evolved into a favorite sport. While there are a few people who still survive by means of fishing, particularly in North America, people fish more for sport than for necessary food.
One North American fish is the trout. They live in many rivers and streams. Many people practice catch and release, so that there will be fish for generations to come. The brown trout is a cold-water fish that jumps when the water temperature is just right. The biggest brown trout as of 1992 was caught in Arkansas. It weighed around 40 pounds. The red trout is a deeper-water lake trout. Laws protect this type of trout. Anglers have to release red trout that measure certain sizes. The size has to do with its ability to spawn and reproduce. By releasing certain trout and following responsible fishing measures, it enables the likelihood that there will be fish for future generations.
One fish that is called a trout, but actually is not a trout, is the rainbow trout. It has been found that rainbow trout are actually related to Pacific Salmon. While brown trout like slower, calmer water and pools, rainbow trout like fast running water that contains lots of oxygen. Another type of trout, again, that is not actually a trout, is the Brooke trout. It is nicknamed the "brookie". They live in northeastern wilderness areas. They are harder to catch than other trout.
Besides trout, another popular type of north American fish is bass. Bass fishing occurs in many parts of the country. There are bass fish farms as well. There are private lakes developed specifically for bass fishing. When someone wants to have a bass fishing lake, he builds it from the beginning with advice from a lake management company. Or, he may call in the services of a lake management company in order to improve an existing lake and stock it with feeder and predator fish, in this case, bass. This is the ideal way to fish for sport...have your own fishing lake.
