Cycling Riise Cycling Is Redesigning Itself
Just a few days after the Schleck brothers announcement that they were no longer going to be part of Team Saxo Bank during the next season, and the rumors about the Luxembourgers cyclists creating their own squad, the owner and manager of the team, Bjarne Riis, had a couple of good news to help digest those casualties and to ensure the accomplishment of the goals set for this upcoming year.
The first of this news was announced during the Tour de France, and it was in reference to a new sponsor, although the name was not revealed to prevent any type of distraction in the mentality of the team. Now with the competition over, it has come to light that the new sponsor is no other than SunGard, a leading software and technology services company, who will be the co-sponsor of the team.
Saxo Bank also extended its contract for one more year with Riise, therefore they will now be known as Saxo Bank-SunGard Team. These are really great news that according to Bjarne Riise: with these two companies committed to the team, we have a solid financial foundation for the future. This financial aid contributes to a brighter future that will allow them to continue competing among the best.
And good news don’t just end there, since the three time Tour de France winner, Alberto Contador, is also joining Saxo Bank-SunGard. After not getting to an agreement with Astana to renew his contract, the Spaniard puts an end to two years under their orders. The arrangement between Contador and the Danish team is for two years, time in which Contador hopes to be able to win Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a Espana in the same year.
Contador’s reason to have chosen Riise’s team over the rest was simple: he was looking for the most solid structure that could offer him better guarantees. He is happy and exited with the decision, as he feels that: with the unique philosophy and team spirit the team offers, I’m ensured solid support from the sponsors, administration and staff of riders that I’m looking forward to becoming a part of myself.
Luxembourg has a big surprise hidden
There is a new team forming in Luxembourg, to which the Schelck brothers, Andy and Frank, are being related. The only thing known for sure is that they will not run for Saxo Bank-SunGard next season, and even though the name of their new squad remains unveiled, their future team has already began its construction to offer the best guarantees to their cyclists.
No matter the name of the team, one thing is a fact; the potential that Andy and Frank will add to it will make them one of the teams to beat next season. And there is no need to even rush to speculate about how the next Tour de France will end, after the two consecutive victories of Contador and Andy coming in second place.
