If you are looking for a change of pace this year for a vacation, you might consider a mountain biking trip. This type trip allows you to become one with nature and test your endurance skills at the same time. There are many places across the country, and beyond, which offers guided tours at whatever skill level you have reached.
A mountain biking trip can be enjoyable if you are in great physical shape and can hold up to the rugged terrain. You will be able to see parts of nature that others can only look at in pictures. There are beautiful mountain streams that flow into valleys of wildflowers and exotic grasses. Temperatures in the mountain ranges are usually cooler because of the higher elevation so heat is not usually a problem.
There are plenty of guides available to help you get the most out of your mountain biking trip. Some people want to do a short outing for a day or two while others want to make a week out of it. For the shorter trips, traveling in a larger group can be enjoyable. You probably will not get to take in as much of nature with a larger group, but it can still be a fun outing. For the most enjoyable experience, try getting a guide for only two couples. This will give you a small enough group to enjoy the sights, but will still allow you to take advantage of an experienced guide who knows all of the best spots to see.
Colorado offers some great single track bike trips. You can enjoy the cool mountain air while riding at altitudes which are higher than ten thousand feet. Traveling eighteen miles a day is something for the avid biker, but if you are up to it you will have a great time.
Utah offers Slide Rock Trail which is a challenger for riders of all experience levels. It contains some of the most steep mountain terrain found anywhere in the world. The riding surface is smooth, but provides plenty of traction. With any number of steep climbs and drop-offs, your strength and skill will be put to the test.
Kettle Valley Railbed in Canada offers a great back country excursion without the difficult climbs or single track trails. The route follows a three hundred fifty mile railway which was built through the mountain at the turn of the century. The grades are only three percent so this mountain biking trip could be one for the entire family to enjoy without having to worry about the tricky terrain some of the other trails feature.
