So no matter what you're looking for, Georgia has trails to appeal to everyone.
If you're looking for a long, easy, scenic bike ride, be sure to visit the Silver Comet Trail. Located not far from Powder Springs, this 40-mile route is all paved and was built atop what used to be a railroad bed, so you'll enjoy riding across bridges and through tunnels in addition to taking in the beautiful scenery all along this trail. The trails are in very good condition, marked for ease of use, and a great place for beginning riders to get their start.
Intermediate bikers will get a fantastic workout on the 6-mile loop called the Horn Creek Trail. Located close to Augusta, you'll find some really adventurous features-like old, collapsed bridges, tree roots, rocks, fallen logs and trees, steep hard inclines, and rapid descents. The good news is, there are areas that enable you to "bail out" of this trail if necessary because you find it's a little more challenging than you expected.
The Jackson area boasts the Dauset Trails and Nature Center with 15 miles of trails. Loops and old fire roads combine to provide good variety for novice and experienced riders alike. All the trails are well marked and maintained-and many feature waterbar jumps, rock gardens, roots to navigate, and earth terraces to keep things interesting and exciting.
Tribble Mill Park near Lawrenceville has many trails to choose from that crisscross around two lakes. There are some well-maintained paved trails and some not so easy. You can spend hours exploring here! There are always new trails being added as well. You really have to investigate to find the more challenging trails, but they are worth it. Youll be rewarded with good climbs, drop-offs, ruts, rocks, roots, and lots of twisting track. Just watch out for equestrians as they also have access to the trails too.
The Pump House Trail near Augusta is a 4-mile loop that was designed by the Velo Augusta Bike Club. While short, it is packed full of all kinds of technical stuff like short, steep climbs; exposed roots; loose dirt; switchbacks; and rocks. Since the track is through a pretty dense forest, you always have to be on the lookout for fallen trees and branches. Make sure to wear a helmet and bring plenty of water.
Experienced and advanced riders with full suspension bikes with disc brakes will also relish the opportunity to catch some air on huge jumps at the Windy Gap Trail. This 12-mile trail located near Chatsworth is a really fast ride with steep inclines, killer climbs, and lots of technical difficulties. It's also extremely exciting!
