Head north to Canada in search of adventure and you'll find plenty of challenging trails with rugged terrain for an exciting biking adventure! If you're still a beginner, read on, because I found a few trails you'll enjoy in Canada, as well.
Beginners may want to try the singletrack route from Old Fort Point going to Valley of the Five Lakes. Located in Alberta, Canada, this 14-mile track provides easy entrance and exit points on the trail so newbie riders can avoid some of the more technical sections of the trail if they desire. Experienced riders will enjoy the technical inclines and challenging descents in a few areas, as well. This is a busy place in the summer, though, so stay alert to other biking traffic on this trail.
Another trail suitable for both inexperienced and advanced riders is located near Quebec City. The Mont Ste-Anne Ski Area charges $6 to get into the area and also has fees if you want to use chairlifts to check out the awesome view, but they also have many trails of varying lengths suitable for riders at different levels. There are some great technical trails, but there are also some easier ones for the novice rider. And if you're lucky, you might even see a bear or moose or other wildlife.
A favorite of bikers in British Columbia is the Burnaby Mountain trails. There is a wide variety of trails, some paved, some gravel. There are some technical spots and fast descents for the experienced biker. Try to get a map of the area to find out the different names of each trail and what each entails.
A Ski Chalet near Bathrust, New Brunswick has nearly 10 miles of trails to choose from. The trails are well-maintained and they are frequently adding more yearly. You'll find lots of technical singletrack, some steep climbs and descents, and a few bridges. There is a group ride every Tuesday evening. These trails come highly recommended from other bikers that live in the area.
Porcupine Ridge near Bracebridge, Ontario is a fun ride for the experienced rider. There are 8 miles of trails to choose from. You won't find a lot of climbs or descents, but there are lots of rocks, roots and some incredible drop-offs to keep things interesting. It's a very technical ride, but lots of fun!
Air Supply is a hardcore ride in North Vancouver, British Columbia. It is for serious, professional bikers only. Packed into 1 mile of track you will find 10-20 foot gaps, huge ladder jumps, high skinnys, ladder drops, high wall rides, a swivel teeter-totter, and a double teeter! Masochists need only apply!
Hopefully you will find something here that fits your experience level and location. Always have your camera ready when riding in Canada. You never know when you'll run across some incredible vista or some friendly wildlife! As always, happy biking!
