Rest The Performance Enhancer
Our body has certain limitations. We need to be careful that we don't exceed these limits and disturb the functioning of our body.
You can benefit yourself by cycling twice everyday in the short term. It can also be a smart move in long term. You have to take into consideration the rest periods when you develop your training schedule or phase. You need to understand the fact that your body needs time in order to recover. Most of the cyclists take a rest period of about six to eight weeks after the competition season is over. Many of them also take small rest periods during the training session. By taking these small rests, you can help your body to adapt to the stress in a better way.
Rest is of prime importance. You cannot just go on training without providing rest to your body. Training without proper rest time will only be an invitation to injuries. You need to understand that you will take time to reach to your potential. You cannot achieve it in one season or in a matter of few weeks. Patience is very important while training for any sport. Your body requires time to adapt to certain situations. It is not meant for around the clock training. You need to respect the needs of your body and fulfill them.
You can start taking rest periods when you begin your training. As your body gets use to the training routine, you can cut down on the rest period slowly. Your body will start adjusting and adapting to this slow change. This will help you to become a better athlete.
Training should not only be limited to fitness and performance. You should be able to enjoy the training. You should get a feeling of satisfaction after the end of every training session. On many occasions, most athletes get very excited and run for larger than life goals. You should be optimistic as well as realistic. You might well end up stressing your body too much by cycling too hard too soon or too fast. You should keep asking your body if it needs rest.
Taking proper rest is also one of the best ways of enhancing your performance. Give your body the time to recover. Rest will only make your body strong. One of the first things that your coach will tell you is prevent overtraining. The day when you feel that you are not enjoying the training session or you not having fun then you should realize that your body is begging you for some rest period.
