If you have not been cycling for long and have been away on a work commitment or with the family and are trying to make a come back to riding your cycle then you have to opt for some basic training plans. There are a few guidelines to follow to get back onto the road. All that you need is the right equipment, the bike and yourself sitting in the right riding position on the bike. It is a good form of exercise going for a ride on the bicycle but sadly these days in our hectic lifestyles we don't have sufficient time for it.
Set aside appropriate time: Set aside an appropriate time on a daily basis for this exercise. If you can dedicate more time the better. Those who have not been at their bicycle for long have to be a bit careful. You could be unfit, having an ailment, suffering from chest pain and headache or without a medical checkup for a while. If you are above the age of forty, then certainly take the doctor' advice and follow it strictly.
Medical worries keep increasing as age advances, so don't just jump into cycling. When you begin riding the bike, start slowly, taking it easy at first and then gradually pick up speed.
It is a great start if you can attain a reasonable speed in the first half hour, without battling for breath. From then on, you can gradually increase time as well as speed. Once you are comfortable riding continuously for thirty minutes you should gradually build up riding time to an hour at least. If you are not able to ride everyday, consider riding for two hours every alternate day. On the rest of the days, you can take time off to do other activities or other forms of exercises.
Try harder: The next step is to try a bit harder, dare little climbs. You can increase the number of climbs gradually by trying out one or two climbs initially and then building on little hills, by taking rest in between, if required. Don't push yourself too hard, but ensure to warm up properly before riding the bicycle. Remember - you have to enjoy the ride more than just sweat it out. Once you feel you are riding effortlessly you can improvise on the time and speed gradually with time. A gradual approach always helps in the long run.
