Do These Steps and Your Bike Selection Skills Will Increase
If you are looking for a new bicycle to buy, then you need to know a few things beforehand. Bicycle shop owners or salespersons would only do their best at the basic level. Therefore, do not expect that they are dependable 100 percent, especially when deciding on expensive bicycles and their accessories.
What you see is not what it appears to be
Often times, you will notice that there appears to be a layer of lubricant on the chain ring. However, that layer of grease is not lubricant! That grease layer alone is too thick to be classified as a lubricant. In fact, it was applied at the factory earlier simply to prevent corrosion and rust. Therefore, remove the grease and then apply bicycle lubricant afterward.
Be more hardworking when it comes to chains
Take the time to see whether your chain ring are worn out or not. If they are, replace them immediately with a new set of chain. Chains are cheap to purchase. Therefore, there is no excuse for you not to care for your chains. You would not want to wear out the cogs and gears too.
Know your helmets
When wearing a helmet, be sure to keep the strap tight. This is because a helmet with a loose strap is a useless helmet. Your head is the most important area of your body. During accidents, a helmet is the only thing that can protect you from serious injuries. How to wear a helmet? Be sure it fits well and is level on your head when you wear it, instead of it leaning backwards or forward.
Mountain and road bicycles are not for extreme games
It is cool when you see 'BMX' (or bicycle motor-cross) bikes perform stunts. So you should not use your mountain or racing bikes for those high air jumps and side landings. The mechanical structures are just not suitable at all for stunts.
Look for toe-clips or pedals which is clipless
Why do you need to spend more money on such small things? Well, these little accessories can give you more power when pedalling. More emphasis is given on the rotating motion instead of vertical (up and down) ones when pedalling. Your feet would not budge or slip when you ride through rough roads too. However, if you feel insecure of fixing your feet to the pedals, then get the half-clips. They do not have straps.
