BMX Fans Call For New Facilities

BMX bikes have long been popular with youngsters and adults alike. Their versatile nature makes them attractive to many people and their appeal shows no sign of waning. Indeed, a group of youngsters from Cleator Moor in Cumbria have been calling on local officials to help people like them use their BMX bikes by constructing new facilities.

According to a report in local paper the News & Star, Luke Dunn, Cameron Bagley and Keelan Park gave a presentation to local councillors in which they asked for a BMX track to be built. In their talk, they suggested a number of possible sites where the provisions could be based.

The teenagers suggested that the best place would be on waste ground in the area that is referred to as the quarry. They also noted that they are prepared to raise money for any bike track facilities that are provided for people in the town. Already, they have collected considerable support, handing over a petition complete with around 160 signatures.

Commenting on the idea, chairwoman of Cleator Moor town council Joan Hully said: "I think it's absolutely fantastic. They were asked to get in touch with Paul Rowe from Phoenix Youth. We are going to contact different organisations to see if they can move it forward for them.

"They were all very polite, they did really well presenting the plans to us. I'm really pleased that they came along to the meeting."

She went on to state that the council needs young people coming forward with ideas, such as this initiative involving a new BMX track.
