The highest mount in the Caucasus Mountains is Mount Elbrus, located on the border between the Russian republics of Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia. Elbrus is a dormant volcano and is the highest peak in both Russia and Europe. It has two summits, the western summit at 5,642 meters (18,510 feet) and the eastern summit at 5,621 meters (18,442 feet).
