How do you use a rake?

Step 1: Assemble the rake.

If the rake is not already assembled, follow the manufacturer's instructions to do so.

Step 2: Prepare the area.

Remove any debris from the area you will be raking, such as rocks, sticks, and leaves. If the ground is very hard or compacted, you may want to loosen it up with a hoe or shovel before raking.

Step 3: Choose the right rake.

The type of rake you use will depend on the task you are performing. For general raking, a bow rake is a good choice. For raking up heavy debris, a heavy-duty rake is better suited.

Step 4: Hold the rake correctly.

Grip the handle of the rake with both hands, with your dominant hand at the top. The rake should be held at an angle of about 30 degrees to the ground.

Step 5: Rake the area.

Begin raking by pulling the rake towards you. Use short, even strokes. Overlap each stroke by about half of the rake's width. Continue raking until the area is clean.

Step 6: Clean the rake.

After using the rake, clean it off by removing any dirt or debris that has accumulated on the tines. You can do this by shaking the rake or brushing it off with a broom.

Step 7: Store the rake.

Store the rake in a safe place, out of the reach of children. If the rake is not going to be used for a long period of time, you may want to cover it with a tarp or plastic bag to protect it from the elements.
