What to do when your lawn mower blows white smoke?

When your lawn mower starts spewing white smoke, take the following steps to get it up and running again:

1. Stop mowing and turn off the engine: Once you notice white smoke, immediately stop using the mower and turn off the engine. This will prevent further damage to the machine.

2. Assess the situation: Check the surrounding area for any signs of fire, such as dry grass or leaves that may have caught on fire due to the white smoke. If you notice flames, quickly extinguish them with a fire extinguisher.

3. Check the oil level: White smoke can be a sign of low oil levels. Check the oil dipstick or oil sight glass (depending on your lawn mower's model) to see if the oil level is below the recommended level. If it is, add the appropriate amount and type of oil as indicated in the owner's manual.

4. Inspect for loose or damaged parts: Look for any loose or damaged parts on the lawn mower that could be the source of the smoke. Check the engine housing, air filter, spark plug, and other components for cracks or damage. If you find any loose parts, tighten them up. If you find any damaged parts, replace them immediately.

5. Check the air filter: A clogged or dirty air filter can cause the engine to overheat, leading to white smoke. Remove the air filter and check for any dirt, debris, or blockages. If the filter is dirty, clean it according to the manufacturer's instructions or replace it if necessary.

6. Inspect the spark plug: A faulty or worn-out spark plug can also cause white smoke. Remove the spark plug and check its condition. Make sure the spark plug gap is set correctly according to the specifications in the owner's manual. If the spark plug is worn out or damaged, replace it with a new one.

7. Contact a professional: If you're still experiencing white smoke after performing these checks and fixes, it's best to contact a qualified small engine repair technician. They can further diagnose the problem and perform any necessary repairs to get your lawn mower working properly again.

Remember to follow the safety guidelines and precautions specified in the lawn mower's owner's manual to avoid any accidents or further damage to the machine.
